There are times when you need to have others to view your calendar or even to
add items to it. With GooSync, mobile professionals and users now have
flexiblity that is normally available to those users syncing with their
Enterprise Exchange servers. Now you can sync your Palm's calendar to a
web-based system that you can share with others.
The standard GooSync service is free but it does contain certain limitations.
You are only able to synchronise your primary Google Calendar and you are
limited to a sync window of 7 days past and 30 days future of the current date.
To use the GooSync system with your Palm OS device, you can choose to sync
when you do a HotSync to your PC or wirelessly
over the air (OTA).
The Hotync process requires an additional 3rd party app. Because the Palm
HotSync software does not allow an IP connection to be established through the
cradle/cable; the GooSync client will be unable to communicate with the
GooSync server. There is, however, 3rd party software available that will allow
an IP connection to be established through the cradle/cable. One such
application is the PPP
software from Softick.com. An evaluation version can be obtained from their
website.
The OTA process requires a small Palm OS application be added
to your device. I could not download the zip file directly to my Treo, but
rather downloaded and emailed it to my Treo.
Toffa offer a subscription service that removes these limitations and
provides additional features. More information on this can be found here.
Neither the free nor subscription service offer syncing ability of tasks or
contacts; however, contact sync is mentioned as coming soon.
