Palm's Notice of Pendency of Class Action Suit
|
|
Mario Palza, Charles Boulais, Nissa Gay, Paul Berliner, Trevor Loew, Stephanie Daniel, and Norm Sun, sued PALM Inc. on behalf of people who have alleged similar claims in a Class Action Suit with the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the case is known as In re: Palm Treo 600 and 650 Litigation, Master Case No. 05- 03774 RMW. The lawsuit claimed that the Treo 600 and Treo 650 smartphones had certain defects, failed at unacceptable rates, and that Palm made misrepresentations concerning the Treo 600 and Treo 650 smartphones. Palm, Inc. denies all allegations and has asserted many defenses. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing or an indication that any law was violated.

Foleo Clone to Release as the RedFly
|
|
Celio Corporation's REDFLY Smartphone Interface System Selected
as CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Award Honoree.
Apparently Celio Corp, like me, agreed that the "Folio
Concept" has a market and that the
Foleo makes sense. I was alarmed when Palm "cancel
the Foleo mobile companion product in its current configuration"
the release of the Foleo; am I delighted that Celio announced
the RedFly? Well kinda, the RedFly does not have Wi-Fi, so it
will eliminate some users and uses. Hopefully it will spark a
renew interest from Palm to put the Foleo back on the market. I think the Foleo and the Redfly will have to support a wireless Internet device from carriers like Sprint and AT&T. This addition will open the product of to many users that want to stay connected but do not want to use their smartphone and are out of reach of a Wi-Fi hotspot. The RedFly will support the Palm Windows Mobile Treo, but do not currently support the Palm
OS based Treos or Centros.

Winamp Remote - View your own Stuff remotely
|
|
I tried the Slingbox AV this weekend. It worked great on my friend's satilite
system. For my home's basic cable, I would need the Slingbox Tuner ($99) instead
of the higher priced units. The AV does not have a built-in tuner and required
that the actual device be controlled remotely. I decided to go another route for my remote viewing pleasures - Winamp Remote.

Palm Treo 755p ''Coming Soon'' to Verizon Wireless
|
|
The Sprint 755p has been out since May 2007 (Dark
Blue and
Burgandy). Many people have asked if I know when the Treo 755p would be
available on Verizon Wireless. Well, I still don't know, but at least they have
provided us with a tease page on their web page announcing that the Palm Treo
755p is "Coming Soon". They do not provide a date for availability. Instead they
provide a link for email notification when it will become available for
purchase. It sounds like they are getting closer to the release date. What color
will Verizon's 755p come in?

Is the Palm OS GPS Solution the Way to Go?
|
|
I have always been a fan of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for use in an automobile. I used to own a wired GPS device that plugged directly into my sync port on my Tungsten T3. I loved that little Radio Shack unit that I go from the clearance area for about $20. This was a few years back, and I have has a few device since then. Even if no one had stolen my cars with the GPS unit inside it, the wired GPS device would be useless with my Treo smartphone because the device couldn't connect to the Treo HotSync port. For a few years, I longingly watched the items on many web sites, waiting until on came into the price range that I could justify purchasing one at. There are few different ways to go about obtaining a GPS solution for my vehicle. Would I go with a Treo based solution or a standalone solution for permanent residency in my vehicle.

Where is my Palm is Steve Harvey?
|
|
I am one of those people who don't listen to radio often; however, for at
least a year now, I had been listening to the Steve Harvey radio show on the way
into the office. I commute to downtown Detroit to work on the DOT bus system,
and I had purchased a little MP3 player with an integrated FM radio to allow me
to listen to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Most days I would listen to the
radio; I seldom ever listened to the MP3 portion of the device. It is not that I
didn’t have a need to do so, it was partially to the device’s measly 512MB of
memory and due to the fact that I listened to podcasts, like 1src and the
Treocast on my Treo. Not since I retired my Palm Tungsten T3 and my Sony
Ericsson T610 had I had to carry two devices around.

|
|
I have been into technology every since I played with a PET Commodore back in
elementary school. I have seen a lot of technology come and go, but every now
and then something BIG comes out that catches my attention, I mean it
really gets my attention. I am talking about
GrandCentral.com, Grandcentral.com is
a free service, which currently is in a closed beta (new members are accepted by
invitation only), that allows you to maintain one phone number that people can
use to reach you (or not) wherever you chose to be reached. This service, unlike
TalkPlus, is not a Palm OS application or any software. GrandCentral's
currently does not have a fee for service (thought they will no doubt have a
premium service for a monthly or annual cost at some point).

Google adds IMAP to its Gmail.com Mail Service
|
|
Google has now added IMAP support to their Free email service - Gmail.com. Google recognizes that many small businesses rely on their Gmail services for their business operations. Google also recognizes that many of its mail service users use mobile devices to send and receive their email. IMAP, or Internet Message Access Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail's servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Apple Mail, even when you aren't connected to the Internet. Palm OS users will love it with Versamail, Chatteremail, Snapperemail and Sprint Mobile Mail. iPhone users can use this new service as well. IMAP creates a constant connection between mail clients (desktop and/or mobile) and Gmail which establishes a What You Have in your Gmail is What You See on your desktop, mobile phone and web browser.

The Palm Centro is a powerful new smartphone that has all of the power of a Treo 755p but with less bulk. The Centro is one of the most useful Palm OS device ever created. All of these applications have been tested on the Palm Centro, actually my wife uses all of these on her own device. Check back often as this story is updated periodically.
